   我觉得男同志都有一个生理弧度(也就是说多少有点驼背),体现在骑马上,就是身体不能坐的正直.相比之下,女同志要好的多.总体来说,女同志的骑资要好于男同志.我想这也是盛装舞步比赛中,女同志更易夺冠的原因.

The Horse Show



Beyond the need for transportation, each era through the centuries has developed its own use of the horse as a partner in glory. Horses have long been a means of expression, satisfying man's need for challenge and stimulation. From earliest times, riding races, chariot races, various polo-type games, hunting, jousting, and similar sports have been dependent on the horse for their very creation and existence. These sports in turn stimulated owners and breeders to keep and reproduce the best horses for their particular purpose.



The horse show is one of today's answers to man's need tor challenge and his demonstration of accomplishment. In today's primarily recreational use of the horse, the horse show takes many different forms; but its overall effect is to stimulate the owner, breeder, exhibitor, show committee member, and spectator toward better breeding, better care, and better horsemanship. Horse Show Associations



The American Horse Shows Association was formed to unify the diverse Interests in the horse world; it is recognized as an accepted authority on horse shows in the United States.



The Rule Book and news sheet "Horse Show" keep AHSA members informed of the amending of rules and the adoption of new ones. A section in the Rule Book is devoted to each of the popular breeds (for example, the Arabian Division, Saddle Horse Division, Shetland Pony Division) and to types of performance (Cutting Horse Division, Dressage Division, Equitation Division, and so on). The AHSA Rule Book lists, among other things, duties of show officials and employees, conduct of recognized shows, recognized judges, stewards, amateur and professional status, class definitions and general procedures, show classifications and requirements.



Membership fees may be found in the current Rule Book; membership blanks may be obtained through the AHSA secretary or in the catalogues of recognized shows.



The American Quarter Horse Association does not show under AHSA rules. It publishes its own handbook, although many of its rules and contest patterns are similar to AHSA's. The handbook includes recommendations concerning youth activities, corporation bylaws, and registration regulations for American Quarter Horses.



The rules and regulations printed in the official handbook must be used at all approved AQHA shows and contests unless otherwise approved by the Executive Secretary of the AQHA. Only horses registered with the AQHA are eligible to compete in these approved shows and contests. The AQHA handbook lists duties of show officials, class definitions, general procedures, and show classifications and requirements (tack, reining patterns, contest measurements, etc.).



To keep members and the public informed, the AQHA publishes an illustrated monthly magazine, Quarter Horse Journal, and other publications.



The numerous breed and national riding magazines also promote interest in showing, and they list ribbon winners around the country. Breed magazines contain information concerning current breed specifications, uses, schooling, facilities for horse and rider, stud service, sale horses, trainers, and horsey people in the news. Any show is more interesting and informative when you know something about the owners and riders, as well as about the horses.

Why Show ?




Why do you want to show? If you have worked hard to improve your riding,or if you feel your training methods have produced especially good results,you may want to measure your progress against other competitors with animpartial, knowledgeable person as judge. Perhaps you would like to meetothers with the same interests. Or perhaps, with the horse show as a definitegoal, you find you work more consistently and enthusiastically with yourhorse.






The prospect of showing your horse, especially in performance, shouldin itself encourage hard work and better riding. It can be harmful, however, if preparation is left until too late and then shortcut methods and overwork areemployed to try to shape up your horse in time.



    A ribbon or trophy should not be the goal for showing your horse; theseshould be happy incidentals acknowledging a job well done. Have someconstructive goals in mind and your enjoyment of the horse show-as bothexhibitor and spectator-will be a reward in itself.



Familiarize Yourself with Horse Show Procedure

Let's assume you have never shown a horse either at halter or in performance.How do you enter, prepare for, and conduct yourself at a show; If you have never attended a horse show as a spectator, now is the time! If you have friends involved in showing, all the better . Accompany them to a few shows, observe the various classes, help with you friends’ horses, and talk with some of the contestants. In short, learn all you can about the overall operation of showing a horse. The ideal type of show to attend is sponsored by a 4-H club, riding school, or riding club: many times there will be critiques for the exhibitor safter each class or at the end. While observing the various classes, either halter or performance, compare the performance and condition of the horses shown to the experience, condition and performance of your own horse. Is your horse ready to compete in that particular class? If not, make notes on what you and your horse should practice. Has your horse the quality,presence, type, conformation, and condition to compete successfully in hal-ter classes? If not, and if you are under eighteen years of age, you can still compete in Junior or Senior Showmanship where your performance as a showman is judged. Naturally, your horse must be trained for this event even though his conformation is not judged. If your horse has been on pasture and



is not in "show" condition, it will take many weeks of good nutrition, daily grooming, loving care, and practice work at halter to accomplish this goal.



Thinking Ahead



First learn what shows will occur in your area-through horsey friends, riding schools and clubs, breed magazines, 4-H club meetings, and tack shops. If you belong to a breed association, you undoubtedly will receive notice of the shows involving your breed. When you gather this information, plan a simple show circuit (a schedule of the shows you plan to attend).Some of these shows may be local day shows, where you can ride your horse to the show grounds, others may be two-day shows or large three-day or four-day events where you must trailer your mount and arrange for overnight accom-modations. It is, of course, wise to attend some small day shows before entering "the big time." Types of contests include open shows (all breeds can participate), breed shows, fairs, playdays, clinics, gymkhanas, and riding club shows.

Exhibitions and Parades

For those folks who like to show their horses but do not have the time to train and practice for ring competition, parades and exhibitions may fill the bill. For this type of showing, your horse must be used to all manner of strange sights and sounds. If you are ever chosen to carry a flag, your horse should be accustomed to the sight and noise of the flapping cloth.



Many of the larger fairs, rodeos, and horse shows provide a parade to generate spectator interest. Here is the chance for the parade horse to show his fine parade gait, his costume or silver tack. Usually the divisions in a parade will be by breed. Arabians are usually shown in native Bedouin costume, M Morgans in Western tack, Appaloosas in Indian costume, and Palominos with extravagant silver parade tack.



The Prize List and Entry Blank

The next step is to obtain prize lists (sometimes called premium lists for the Shows you wish to enter. These are usually available at least one or two months in advance. Prize lists include the all-important entry blank, NHSA or AQHA membership blank, information on show officials, list of breeding and performance classes, the information on prize money, general informa-tion on such things as rules, registration, stall, tack room, fees, admission
passes, date entries close (some of the small local shows accept entries the day of the show), exhibitors’ dinner, veterinary inspection, hay and grain availability, farrier, and so on. If there will be a jumping class, reining class, or other such specialized event, the prospective courses and patterns may be diagramed in the back of the prize list. Courses and patterns may also be posted at least an hour before the scheduled class.

   When filling out the entry blank, first make sure that you are eligible and that your horse is suited to the classes you wish to enter. Fill out all blanks, and be sure to sign the form.



   If you are a minor, a parent or guardian must also sign to give consent to you entry. Because at most shows stalls are assigned in the order the entries are received, send in your entry as soon as possible.



Most large shows bring out-of-state exhibitors; therefore they usually send a map of the city, giving the location of the show and a list of motel and hotel accommodations available for exhibitors and spectators. The prize list also gives the necessary information for those who wish to advertise in the show program. Breeding farms, tack shops, and training facilities

Make yourself familiar with the rules for each specific show. Are post entries accepted? what tack do I need? What do I wear? On what are my classes judged? The questions should be answered well in advance of the show so that you have time to train your horse, and so that you have time to break in any new tack or attire that may be necessary.

Preparing Your Horse 

If you plan to showy, begin preparing your horse three or four months ahead of the of the show season, even if you have no idea which shows you will enter.
He will need an ample, nutritious grain ration with vitamin mineral supplement, and good-quality hay or alfalfa. Salt and water should be readily available. Parasite control is very important: All the good food in the world won’t help your horse’s physical appearance or mental outlook if parasites are infesting him. Take a sample of feces to your veterinarian for a report on the parasites that are present. The vet may suggest worming with a stomach tube, followed up later by diet worming.

Several weeks before the show try out the fly repellent you expect to use at the show. Some repellents may irritate your horse’s skin. We know of one case where the horse was so affected by the repellent that he had to be scratched from the entire show.

    Your horse will need thorough daily grooming. Call the farrier and have your horse shod about ten days to two week before the show so that he will have time to adjust to his shoes. It his feet are dry, apply a hoof dressing to help condition them. Clip the hair from the coronary band to above his fetlocks; trim about his throatlatch; trim off his face whiskers; clip the bridle path if the breed calls for it, and trim around his ears. It is up to the owner whether or not he clips the inside of his horse’s ears. If your horse will not be subject to insect-nuisance, clipping the inside of the ear will not bother him; but it is thoughtless to clip inside the ears and leave him to the mercy of mosquitoes, flies, or gnats. It is true that most professionals thoroughly clip their horse’s ears. If you feel it is necessary, you can buy a scrim ear net at most tack shops to protect him.
If your horse has never been away from home before, you have no idea how he will react to different water. Get him used to drinking from a pail at home, add a few drops of molasses or mint extract, and be sure to take the same nail (and molasses or mint) with you. See Chapter V111 for more about your horse away from home.



Preparation of Equipment, Attire, and Tack



A trunk or tack box that you can transport to the show is necessary and convenient for most exhibitors. In this you will collect such things as your show grooming tools, clippers, nails, screws, snaps, hammer, cloths, extra halters, ropes, saddle soap, leather conditioners, animal shampoo and coat dressing, scissors, saddle blandest, sheets, chaps, spurs, Vaseline or other medical supplies, extra pieces of leather for repairs, some twine, wire cutters, leg and tail wraps, tope for saddle, longe line, slicker, second cinches, extra show brow bands, bridles, show halters, and whips (if tack box is large enough), as well as extra parts for saddle and bridle.



After collecting everything, print a list of the items and attach it to the lid of the tack box  this will help you avoid forgetting things either before or after the show and will serve as a check list for forthcoming shows. Undoubtedly you will change the list from time to time. It is wise to print your name on most items with indelible ink. You may purchase and use a leather-burning outfit to mark your tack. For maximum protection, register branded tack and other valuables with your local sheriff’s department.



Of course, your tack box will contain only the smaller items. Let’s now think of the larger miscellaneous equipment you’ll need: pitchfork, rake, shovel, buckets, grain pans, stall sign, and folding chairs. At most shows there will be a bale of straw in each stall and you can purchase hay and grain. However, if you wish to take your own, be sure to add it to your list. Don't forget -font saddles and bridles! Most of the above items will be packed the



day before you leave for the show; but as the last day is hectic, to say the least, make your list early and check off items as you pack them in.

你的马需要每天的彻底梳理。打电话叫钉马掌师在比赛前十天或两星期前钉马掌，以便马有时间适应新马掌。如果它的蹄干燥，可以敷一些蹄膏来缓解。剃去马踝上的毛，修剪马脖子下的毛，剃去马面部的长须，剪短马笼头经过部分的毛（如果这种马的比赛要求的话），耳朵附近的毛也要修剪整齐。马主自己决定是不是要剪短马耳朵里面的毛。如果你的马不受昆虫的骚扰，剪短耳朵里面的毛不会引起马的不舒服，但如果剪短马耳朵里面的毛任蚊子苍蝇肆虐，那就有欠思量了。的确很多专业人士仔细修剪马耳朵里面的毛。如果你觉得必要，你可以多数马具店里买一副麻制耳罩来保护你的马。 



如果你的马从未离开过家，你不知道它对不同的饮水反应如何。让它在家里就习惯于从水桶饮水，加几滴糖浆或薄荷，并记住带上同一个水桶（还有糖浆或薄荷）。参见第八章有关马在家外面的讲述。 



准备器械、服饰和马具 



对多数参赛者来讲，一个能够搬到赛场的装马具的大箱子很有必要，也很方便。箱子里面你可以放诸如此类的东西，如梳理马匹的工具、理发推子、钉子、螺丝、按扣、锤子、布头，备用的笼头、绳子、洗马鞍用的肥皂、皮革调理剂、动物用的洗发香波和毛皮调理剂、剪刀、马鞍毯、布单、恰卜斯、马刺，凡士林或其它医疗用品，备用的用以修补的皮革、一些麻绳、剪绳的剪子、裹马蹄和尾巴的布，马鞍用的绳子、长线、风雨衣、第二付肚带，备用的额革、比赛用马笼头、马鞭（如果马具箱子够大的话），以及马鞍和马笼头的配件。 



所有的东西齐备后，打印一份物件清单贴在马具箱的盖子上，者有助于你避免赛前或赛后忘掉东西，也可作为将要举行的马术比赛的检查清单。无疑你会时时更新这份单子。在多数物件上用擦不掉的墨水写下你的名字是个聪明的做法。你可以购买皮革刻蚀器材来在你的马具上做记号。最大限度的保护是去本地警察局登记你的名牌马鞍或其它有价值的东西。 



当然，你的马具箱只能装小物件。让我们来想想你将需要的大的物件：草垛叉、耙子、铁锹、桶、谷物桶、马厩牌、折叠椅。在多数马术比赛场地每个马厩前都有一垛麦杆，你也可以买干草和谷物。但是，如果希望自己带，别忘了加入到你的任务清单上。别忘了你的马鞍和马笼头。以上多数物件在离开参赛前头一天装好，但由于最后一天总是紧紧张张，所以尽早把物件清单列好，一边打包一边从清单上划掉

好贴！不过"Scratched from the entire show"意思不是整场比赛都得给它挠痒，而是说"退出"整场比赛。Scratch的用法最早开始是在赛马的时候，如果一匹赛马因为各种原因要退出比赛，教练要到注册办公室把他的名字从花名册上划掉（scratch）--就是实实在在的用墨水笔把它涂掉
