快樂的下午

昨天下午, 我一如往常, 去草原與馬玩耍.

上個月, 我注意到, 我的馬不喜歡前去訓練它跳躍階梯的場所. 他給我的信息, 是一副不怎麼高興的臉, 走向該區時步伐懶散, 常常停下. 解開馬索時會離我遠去.... 這些我都看在眼裡, 我明白它是在婉轉地說他不想去...

我心中開始一些盤算. 怎麼改變它的想法?

決定準備另一種他非常喜愛的零嘴 --- 胡蘿蔔蘋果餅乾. 我告訴自己, 這個獎勵只有在跳躍階梯的場所才用, 也在他跳上跳下時才給予.

很快地, 它開始知道到那個地方零嘴會不同.

有一次, 它一跳上階梯, 我給他 "大大的獎勵", 十倍於平常的獎,
一次, 它一跳下階梯, 同樣大獎伺候.

才兩天, 完全改觀. 它現在一感覺到我們要前往該地, 便精神奕奕. 這次更好笑, 完全沒有馬索, 我兩走近階梯處, 它就自己開始快跑 (Trot), 跳上去. 然後站在上面一副得意樣, 等賞. 朋友看了都一直笑.

跳下來也不用我催, 主動得很. 笑死我們.

我跟老婆說這事, 她說, 好像小朋友自動寫作業. ha ha ha.

Jose,

You need to know shaping and your horse needs to have experience in shaping, then the method of positive reinforcement can work. In addition, how do you catch the behavior when your horse does the right thing without  a marker?

One story:  pigeons are sent to the lab room where they needs to "push the box" underneath a target and then "stand up on the box" to touch the target before it gets the reward. Pigeons without any experience can never finish the task. Pigeons that learned "the meaning of the marker", "to push the box" and "to touch the target" separately can easily combine these behaviors and creatively finish the task.

There're lots of things to consider. It is not just "大大的獎勵".
