Organising Committee appoints the Chief Steward and an appropriate number of stewards. This is necessary since the area of responsibility of the Chief Steward is very large and includes control of the whole event site, with special emphasis on the stable area, control of entrance to and exit from restricted areas, as well as organisation and control of schooling areas. Furthermore, the stewarding team assists the veterinary team in most of its work. The training of a stewading team is of great importance and can only be successful if capable group leaders are appointed and well instructed. It is also important to provide the stewards with good equipment and the best possible facilities. For the purpose of communication, the entire team should be equipped with radios. TV cameras could also be of great assistance in supervising the stable and schooling areas. Briefing sessions must be organised every day. Since the stewarding team has to work outdoors most of the time, day and night, shelter has to be organised and a room must be available so that they have a place to rest from time to time. One should not forget to ensure that they are properly fed. It may be helpful to forget to ensure that they are properly fed. It may be helpful to organise a special dress for the team, in order to give them an official appearance(armbands, badges, bright jackets). Since stewarding includes a large variety of activities, it is recommended that different groups be formed within the stewarding team; each one trained for a specific duty and led by a qualified group leader. it is important to prepare daily work sheets in order to inform everyone of his precise duty. The most obvious groups should undertake the following duties: (1)Organisation of stabling and feeding, stable security, gate control, night control, arrival and departure of horses and vans. (2)Control of schooling areas. (3)Assistance to MCP, Veterinary Delegate/Commission for veterinary examinations, inspections, entry lists etc. (4)Supervision of event area, checking that horses going to the prize-giving ceremonies are those placed (5)Cooperation with police, medical service, the treating and testing veterinarians, farrier, fire brigade, etc. (6)Specialists for special tasks required by various disciplines.
