The Japan Equestrian Federation JEF will hold a test to select the team of four horses and rider that will represent Japan in Rio. The federation asked candidates to ensure by May 23 they meet certain conditions in order to be shortlisted. Hoketsu’s horse will not take part in the test due to health issues. Hiroshi Hoketsu has acquired the Westfalian registered Brioni W as his 2016 Rio Olympic hopeful back in January. Brioni W is a 15-year old gelding by Breitling x Diego xx x Palisander bred by Wittig and Thiemann. Hoketsu, who ride at the Avalon Hillside Farm equestrian club, was anticipated to be on the long list to participate in what would be his fourth Olympics and back in January completed the necessary procedures with the Japanese Olympic Committee . Hoketsu was quoted by a federation official as saying, “To my regret, I gave up on my dream of competing in the Rio Olympics. Nothing is decided about the future. For the time being, I will prioritize helping to restore my horse’s health.”
