This event aims to uncover the tenacious and progressive spirit of the "thousand-mile horse" in Chinese culture, while striving to showcase the excellent traits of domestic horses—"hardworking, resilient, and determined." It seeks to highlight the power of China's intellectual property and values, create competitive advantages for Chinese domestic horses, showcase China’s magnificent natural landscapes and sports tourism resources, expand the application and enjoyment of equestrian sports, and establish China’s own equestrian competition rules and value system. This is all part of an effort to inject new meaning into China’s national sports culture. We welcome China's thousand-mile horses to sign up for the race!

IV. Rules and Features
1.        The competition will follow the "Super Endurance Equestrian Orienteering Competition Rules" formulated by the Equestrian Culture Sports Committee of the China Ethnic Minorities Sports Association. The rider-horse combination must complete each daily fixed stage according to the rules, with the final ranking determined by the cumulative time and penalties. The shortest time wins.
2.        The "Super Endurance Equestrian Orienteering Competition Rules" incorporate principles and guidelines from the International Federation of Equestrian Tourism (FITE) "International Orienteering Equestrian Triathlon" rules and the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) "International Endurance Equestrian Competition" regulations.
3.        This event combines the characteristics of ultra-long-distance endurance riding and equestrian orienteering. It is a multi-day race, with one rider and one horse. Competitors and horses will face long riding durations and intense physical exertion, as well as navigate complex course routes through a directional navigation system. This multi-day race format thoroughly tests the endurance of both the rider and horse, tactical intelligence, and the horse-rider collaboration, significantly increasing the challenge of the event.
4.        The event encourages riders to use the same horse throughout the competition, but riders may switch to a backup horse if the primary horse suffers an injury or illness.
V. Key Rules and Regulations
1.        Use of Backup Horses
o        Riders are encouraged to complete the race using a single horse. However, as this is the first ultra-long-distance race in China, riders are allowed to use a backup horse.
o        If a backup horse is used, it must be used the next day and will incur additional time penalties (penalty time). The calculation is: the first backup horse’s race time * 2.5, which will be added to the total score. The time used by the second and subsequent backup horses will not be included in the total score but will be counted toward the "Rider Completion Award" instead.
o        If the final backup horse is eliminated, the rider will be fully disqualified.
2.        Veterinary Inspections and Horse Elimination
o        A veterinary inspection will take place at the finish line of each stage of the race. The inspection items and elimination standards follow those of the FEI International Endurance Race.
o        If the veterinary inspection at the finish line of any stage (including the last stage on the final day) is failed, the horse will be eliminated, and the rider will be given a time penalty of 20 hours for that stage. Actual Photo: 2012 Zhaosu Endurance Race, French Veterinarian
3.        Horse Microchip and Horse Changes
o        All participating horses must be microchipped for full tracking and identification, preventing any horse swaps during the race.
o        Riders wishing to use a backup horse must report to the chief judge before making the switch.
o        If a horse is eliminated, the rider may only switch to a backup horse starting the next day, not in the middle of a stage.
o        If a rider privately switches horses during the race, both the rider and the horse will be disqualified from the competition.
4.        Mobile Location Tracking and Shortcuts
o        During the race, competitors will use mobile phones and related navigation apps to locate control points (check-in points) announced by the judges. The judges will not provide any routing details.
o        Each day, the riders must check in at 5-10 control points in order. Missing or incorrectly ordered check-ins will result in a 120-minute penalty per missed point.
o        If a rider damages any fences (such as wooden barriers or other obstacles), a 6-hour penalty will be imposed, and in serious cases, the rider may be disqualified from the competition.
5.        Weight Requirements
o        Riders must meet a weight standard of 75 kg, which includes the saddle, bridle, and any additional weight. Riders are responsible for ensuring their weight. Weigh-ins will take place at the start, midpoint, and finish of each stage.
o        The weight loss limit is 2 kg. If the rider’s total weight drops below 73 kg due to weight loss, they will be issued a warning on the first occasion. A second occurrence will lead to disqualification.
6.        Satellite Trackers
o        Both rider and horse must wear a satellite tracker throughout the race, which will be provided by the organizing committee for tracking, rescue, and monitoring purposes.
o        The satellite trackers and mounting equipment must not be tampered with or dismantled.
7.        Malicious Violations
o        The following actions will be considered malicious violations, and the rider will be disqualified and subject to public criticism:
        Using other modes of transport (e.g., cars) during the competition.
        Maliciously damaging race signage, electronic devices, or equipment, or falsifying documents or electronic data.
        Maliciously affecting the safety or health of other competitors’ horses.
        Disrupting the race order, creating confusion, or undermining the fairness and safety of the competition. Actual Photo: 2013 Zhaosu Endurance Race, 120 Riders Starting
8.        Maximum and Minimum Speed Limits
o        The minimum speed for the entire race is 6 km/h, and this will be used to calculate the closing times for each stage. Any horse that finishes after the closing time will be eliminated. Riders may switch horses or withdraw from the race at subsequent stages.
o        For the professional group, the speed limit for the first three days is a maximum of 12 km/h, which will be used to calculate the daily finish cutoff times. Early arrivals will still be scored based on this cutoff time.
o        For the public group, the speed limit for the first day is also a maximum of 12 km/h, and similar rules apply.
9.        Outside Assistance, Invasive Treatments, and Other Prohibitions
o        Outside assistance is prohibited on the course, and invasive treatments are not allowed in rest areas. Relevant penalties will be applied based on the rules.
o        Whips and spurs are not allowed on the course.
o        Riders must carry and wear the required mandatory equipment while on the course (see the detailed list).
o        If a rider repeats a mistake after being reminded twice, they will be eliminated from the competition.

VI. Course Setup
1.        Course Planning
The course will be set in Zhaosu County’s Tianma Cultural Park and surrounding natural scenic areas. It will pass through various terrains such as grasslands, mountains, and river valleys. The course design not only showcases Zhaosu’s unique natural beauty but is also highly challenging, thoroughly testing the endurance of both riders and horses.
2.        Control Points (Check-in Points)
o        Each day’s route will include 4-10 control points (check-in points), which riders must visit in order and check in at.
o        The race will use an electronic orienteering check-in system.
o        In principle, each control point will have a judge stationed to take photos and manually record data.
3.        Mandatory Rest Stops and Veterinary Inspection Zones
o        The daily route will be divided into 2-4 segments, with a veterinary inspection and mandatory rest stop at the end of each segment.
o        At the end of each segment, participating horses will undergo veterinary checks. If the horse does not pass the inspection, it will be eliminated. After reaching the segment's endpoint, the horse’s pulse must be reduced to 64 beats per minute within 20 minutes, or the horse will be eliminated.
o        Once the horse’s pulse drops to 64 beats per minute, the time taken will be included in the race score. After passing the inspection, riders must rest for 30 minutes, and this rest period will not count towards the race time. Specific procedures for mandatory rest stops and veterinary checks are in line with FEI endurance race standards.
4.        Midway Service Facilities
o        There will be mobile water supply stations and first aid stations along the course each day. These stations will provide horses with necessary water replenishment and offer food, water, medical aid, equipment repair, or replacement for the riders.
o        The distance between service stations will not exceed 25 km.
VII. Participation Requirements
1.        Rider Eligibility
o        There are no restrictions on the rider’s gender, age, or nationality.
o        Riders must be in good health, with no major medical conditions or contagious diseases.
o        Riders should have solid equestrian skills and experience in outdoor riding.
o        Riders must have no history of disqualifying violations in previous competitions.
o        Riders under 18 years of age must submit a consent form from a legal guardian to participate.
o        To ensure safety, riders must submit proof of their equestrian skill level, such as participation certificates from various competitions or graded exams, or photos and videos from long-term involvement in equestrian activities and events, or written proof from their association or club (with an official stamp). If such documentation is not available, the organizing committee will test the rider’s basic cross-country riding skills. The test can be done remotely, with the organizing committee entrusting a nearby equestrian center or club to conduct the test according to the "TREC Cross-Country Obstacle Rules" and "General Equestrian Grading Standards" (attached). Riders must submit a video of the test, and only after assessment of meeting the standards will they be allowed to participate.
o        For team competitions, each team must consist of 4 riders, with a minimum of 3 riders.
2.        Horse Eligibility
o        The horse must be healthy, strong, and free from disabilities or injuries.
o        Horses must undergo a pre-race veterinary inspection as required. Horses that do not pass the inspection or do not attend the inspection will not be allowed to race.
o        Horses must be at least 5 years old (born before January 1, 2020). Age will be determined based on the horse's passport and the organizing committee's veterinary evaluation.
o        Horses must present a valid horse passport (issued by any domestic or international recognized equestrian association), which should be submitted to the race veterinarian upon arrival at the race area.
3.        Quarantine Requirements
o        Horses from outside the region must undergo the relevant quarantine procedures and submit a valid quarantine certificate issued by the local veterinary authority when arriving at the race area.
4.        Stabling and Feeding Management, and Third-Party Services
o        The organizing committee will provide stables with fire and theft prevention, charging 50 RMB per horse per day for stabling.
o        Riders must bring their own feed and hay, ensuring its suitability and quality for their horses.
o        The care and feeding of horses are the responsibility of the riders, horse owners, and stable workers, including any injuries, illnesses, or third-party liabilities that may arise.
o        If additional services such as caretakers, farriers, or other related services are needed, the organizing committee can recommend local third-party providers. The organizing committee will not assume any responsibility for these services.

IX. About Renting Local Horses for Participation
1.        Participants can bring their own horses, or they can rent or purchase local horses in Zhaosu County. To encourage external participants to rent or purchase local horses, and to promote the endurance performance testing and market promotion of local Yili and Kazakh horses, the Zhaosu government and the organizing committee will provide information about local horses and offer technical guidance and sample agreements.
2.        The legal relationship regarding rental agreements will occur directly between the renter and the horse owner, and it is not related to the organizing committee.
3.        To avoid disorganized competition among locals, the organizing committee provides suggested price guidelines for local horses and services, as follows, for reference only:
o        For professional group riders who rent 1 horse, if they require 3 months of specialized training and care, plus 9 days of rental for the event (including transportation and veterinary checks for 2 days), the cost would be:
3 months * ¥4,000/month (training and care) + ¥8,000 (event service fee, including feeding, care, transportation within the county, and personnel support).
o        For public group riders who rent 1 horse, if they require 2 months of specialized training and care, plus 5 days of rental for the event (including transportation and veterinary checks for 2 days), the cost would be:
2 months * ¥3,500/month (training and care) + ¥3,000 (event service fee, including feeding, care, transportation within the county, and personnel support).
o        The rental and service price guidelines are calculated based on the horse’s quality, the duration and intensity of the event service, the length of specialized training, and feeding, and reference to the domestic market prices for endurance race horse rentals.

X. Results Calculation
1.        Individual Results:
Individual results will be calculated by adding up the total time for each segment of the event. The participant with the shortest total time will be the winner.
2.        Team Results:
The team results will be based on the cumulative times of the best three participants from each team. The team with the shortest total time will win.
3.        Important Notes:
The following factors, which can easily be overlooked in the results calculation, should be taken into account:
o        The use of the first backup horse will incur a penalty time (multiplied by a factor of 2.5). The use of the second and subsequent backup horses will not be counted toward the results, only toward the "Completion Award" for the rider.
o        The time it takes for the participating horse to reduce its heart rate after each segment (excluding the final day’s last segment).
o        If a horse is eliminated during a single day's segment, a penalty time of 20 hours will be added, and it can be accumulated across multiple days.
