One the Shenzhen rider write to me yesterday 2009.11.29, please read: I just came back from Xili. I cried and felt deeply upset and angry for a tragedy which happened around 5:30pm at Xili Stable today. It was due to the ignorance, pride, greed of the human beings. The stable did not bother the ability of the riders and the conditions & welfare of the horses but only money. It was getting dark. A ruthless rider wanted to buy and try ex-race horse and rode the horse at full gallop single-handed and without warm up. With less in a minute, the horse crashed into the rail at the full speed before making a turn. The rider rocketed out from the horse and fell beyond the rail. Poor horse's chest was torn open and died at the spot. Some other riders also got emotionally disturbed. A teenage girl just cried non stop next to her father. I would need some time and courage to review the photos of the dead horse.....The stable is just overcrowded and full of conflict. The horse owners get angry when there is fight between their horses. The grooms fight with each other while protecting the territory of their bosses' horses....I am really sad for this matter.

We often heard and saw inexperienced riders falling. Yesterday, an inexperienced rider wanted to buy and test an ex-race horse in Shenzhen. Around 5:15pm the horse was warmed up by a groom. A rider put the horse at full gallop and rode with one hand immediately he mounted on the horse. He could not control the horse. The ring is about 300m with a hidden bend. It was getting dark. The rider did not give proper signal. The horse might not be trained enough to get familiarized with the site conditions or to burn the extra energy ..the horse dashed into the inner rail of the ring. Its chest was torn open and died at the spot. Rider was sent to hospital. We feel the strong urge to stop this , alert the awareness and protect the welfare of the horses. Please advise. I got the photos as well.

The horse died at the outer rail near the white building. It crashed to the inner rail of the bigger ( back) ring which turns left

The latest information: “The dead ex-race horse arrived at the riding centre a few months ago ( less than 6 months). It is an ex-race horse from <place wst="on">Macau</place>. It may carry a registration number which starts either ‘ E’ or ‘ R’.”

I'm really sad to hear it. Why????  Can't they give some respect to the horses?? It is a life!!!Hopefully all riders and horse owers would treat horse as their relatives, not a machine. Even machine needsmaintainance, how they can treat a life like this?

HKSPCA have already taken action, on December 19, on Saturday afternoon, sent two inspectors of the visited Shenzhen Xili Lake Riding Club. Collect some information, and a meeting with Hong Kong Jockey Club later.
